Although everyone loves to celebrate ” April Fools Day” and there are many theories behind this but no one exactly knows how it started, or from where this trend began.
Traces of relations between “April Fools Day” and foolishness can be seen in Geoffrey Chaucer’s work “The Canterbury Tales,” which means that the tradition might have started in 1932 or even earlier.
2) History of Calendar Change:
According to a theory, April Fools day was introduced in France when pope changed the calendar from 1st January to 1st April. People who didn’t have any idea regarding calendar change, celebrated new year but people who knew about it, started calling them “Fools”.

3) Another Theory: The April Fish
In “Originator Country” France, There is a traditional way to celebrate the day. According to this tradition, people make a paper fish and stick it on someone’s body without their knowledge and shout “April Fish”.

In 1976, BBC played a prank on its listeners by reporting a news. They made their listeners believe that “Due to some alignment of planets, Gravitational Force will be temporarily decreased.” Some believed the news so much that they even called BBC and reported the incidents.

On 1st April 1698, Many British people went to the Tower of London to see “The Lions Washed” following a fake news. This was considered as the first large-scale “April Fools Prank” of British history.
6) Visit Mars:
A travel site once announced on April first that it’s offering a trip to Mars for a specified period! A trip to the angry red planet is appealing, but the announcement date would have been checked.
7) Birthday of mail king: Gmail
Google launched Gmail on the eve of April fools day, and everyone thought that it was a prank due to its unbelievably good features! But the company really launched the mail king of today!
8) Different Countries, different Traditions.
There are many different ways in different countries to celebrate the lighthearted day. As in Scotland, people celebrate 2 days as April Fools day while in countries like Canada and England, people are allowed to play pranks only till 12 noon. While in France people called in April Fish day.
