Duration: 1 hour 52 minutes
The story of this film is based in Delhi where a school teacher Vidya ( Raveena Tandon ) and her daughter Tia ( Alisha) are raped. Vidya survives but unfortunately, her Daughter didn’t. Due to Political pressure Police also refuses to help her. How this mother will take revenge of her daughter’s death and how the culprits will be punished.
Maatr is an Indian thriller film written by Michael Pellico and directed by Ashtar Sayed. This move strongly presents the condition of crime against women in Delhi, which is also referred as the rape capital of India. How society, family, and everyone drags away their feet and become numb on such horrific crimes and how politicians misuse their powers to save their criminal relatives
Similarly, here when Vidya gets no support from anyone even her husband left her. A politician uses words like “Aurat hai… kya kar legi” for Vidya and it shows us how women are still considered as the second gender in our society. But vidya is not an ordinary mother and she herself decides to seek retaliation by fighting broken justice and criminal system.
Raveena has beautifully portrayed the role of a bold mother who can go to any extent to get justice but this movie lacks in the screenplay. A story like this is very common and it provides nothing new to us. Director Ashtar banked only on Raveena to attract the audience but unfortunately, she alone couldn’t lift the film.
