Its been a while when Carl Pie, announced that the Face Unlock will come to the Oneplus 5, and now that build is up and running, and carl pie hints that this feature could come to the older Oneplus 3 and 3T too…we will talk about it later, but first lets talk about the Oneplus 5 Face Unlock.
Oneplus 5 Face Unlock Oreo Beta 3
This open beta is based on Android Oreo (8.0) as expected. However this build also includes some modifications and bug fixes, check out the changelog to know more
- Added app shortcut on Launcher
- Added Face Unlock :p
- Optimizations for vibration
- Fixed connection issue of 5G Wi-Fi
- General bug fixes and improvements
- Updated Android security patch to December
The Face Unlock on the Oneplus 5 looks and feels good, in my testing so far the face unlock worked 100% of the times, but I will test it in some other conditions as well. Also, the vibration and the haptic feedback feel a bit different than before and nicer. To download this build on your Oneplus 5 you have to install the open beta 2 first from the link below, and then, you will get an OTA of the new build.
Dirty flash is fine if you are running a previous OOS version or any Rom based on OOS, else if you come from a custom ROM Clean Flash is recommended.
Caution: Please remove your existing screen lock/Pin/Pattern/ Password and set it to swipe before starting the update process. users have reported unable to unlock after the Oreo update, thus remove as a precaution.
Now, as the Oneplus 5 Face Unlock is officially supported, its time that older devices should also get it. In a forum post, carl pie asked
“In the spirit of building together, we’d also like to ask our OnePlus 3 and 3T users: Do you want Face Unlock too?”
This implies that the face unlock can get ported into Oneplus 3 and 3T, and soon Oneplus 3 and 3T users will get to see face unlock for their devices. Pie said that they will release face unlock in an Open Beta first, before pushing it to all users.
So, what do you think about the Oneplus 5 Face Unlock feature, have you tested it? what’s your opinion, and do you think the addition of Face Unlock in Oneplus 3 and 3T is a nice move? Tell us in the comments below.
